SCROLL
ALARM
Less Scrolling, More Living

OVERVIEW
Scroll Alarm is a native Android App. The idea is to track and monitor the number of scrolls users do in social media feeds. When the time is over, it will flash or warn the user to stop. It provides the flexibility to do this across single or multiple apps at once. It will also show the number of scrolls they have done in a day, a week, a month or even a year. It will also correspondingly show the time they have scrolled.
Scroll Alarm is like your social media alarm you set every morning.

QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH

PROBLEM STATEMENT
A teenager wants to cut down his/her social media usage (especially the infinite vertical scroll) because it is addictive, drains and exhausts his/her mental energy and does nothing good other than creating a feeling of emptiness or longing"
RESEARCH INSIGHTS
Existing Solutions :
-
Digital Wellbeing Apps that can calculate the number of hours per day users spend staring at their screens. If the user exceeds a set time limit, the digital wellbeing app can send an alert letting the user know it's time to take a break.
-
Utility Apps that come pre-installed on OS. Ex : Screen time
-
Productivity Apps that will let users focus on things they like to do instead of spending that time on social media
-
Browser Extensions to block social media websites
-
Work-Life Mode and Disabling Notifications
Limitations :
-
Time Tracking Apps have found to be helpful but the problem is that users use it for a short period of time until they get overwhelmed by it and then they uninstall it.
-
Having a time limit app can cause frustration or a sense of itch when they are unable to open a notification or a message beyond the limit.
-
Screen Time feature that comes with the OS doesn’t always remind the users to check it.
-
Work-Life mode and disabling notifications can sometimes cause important personal messages to be missed
